Producing Well-Rounded Racers

The purpose of the Toggenburg Junior Racing Association is to provide opportunities for  members to develop and refine their skiing skills and knowledge of ski racing through proper conditioning, training and competition. The goal for our program is simple—to create excellent skiers through sound fundamental skiing. It’s imperative that our athletes become great skiers before they become great racers. We also believe in the critical role ski racing plays in helping young skiers enjoy balanced personal growth and develop specific skills which will enhance not only their skiing ability, but benefit all areas of their lives. Some of these skills and abilities include:

  • Mental and physical discipline
  • Sportsmanship
  • Sound knowledge of skiing technique
  • Setting reasonable and obtainable goals
  • Adapting to different environments/situations
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Good manners and social principles
  • Sound work ethic and self motivation

In The Best Environment

In order to facilitate this growth and development, our training and competition program is organized with the intent to provide the following:

  • Instruction in proper skiing technique and fundamentals
  • Quality coaching for young athletes
  • Environment conducive to effective training
  • Promotion of self-motivation and creativity in the athletes
  • Efforts to keep training activities interesting and enjoyable
  • Enhancement of self-esteem

Be sure to review our race handbook for the essential details of our program and contact us with any questions you may have.

Toggenburg has given me a strong skiing foundation, an inspiration to always give 100%, and a deep love for alpine racing. I now go to a ski academy in Vermont, race NorAm’s, and I am a ski recruit for Dartmouth. Without the help of the race team at Toggenburg I never would have accomplished any of this.  — Jackie Maier
